MANSEHRA, June 10: At least two people were killed and three injured in a shootout in the premises of the district courts here on Thursday. Two under-trial prisoners in a triple murder case after attending a hearing in the court of Additional Sessions Judge-III were being brought to police vehicle for sending them back to the district jail.

The handcuffed accused Mohammad Fiyaz and Abdur Rashid sons of Yaqoob, residents of village Gujran in the upper Tanawal area were allegedly fired upon by Fiyaz alias Dakia son of Taj Mohammad and Shahnawaz son of Farid, residents of village Gujran in front of Saddar police station on Kutchery Road.

As a result, the under-trial prisoner Mohammad Fiyaz died on the spot while his brother Abdur Rashid was injured. Two passersby Dr Mohammad Ali of the EPI department of the EDO health office was injured by receiving bullet shot in the arm and Fazlur Rehman, a driver of Haripur police was injured by receiving shot in the leg.

Police said Yaqoob, the father of under-trial prisoners was also present on the spot who allegedly opened fire on the assailants as a result of which the assailant Mohammad Fiyaz alias Dakia son of Taj Mohammad died on the spot.

His cousin, Shahnawaz was caught by police while fleeing and a pistol recovered from him. Police have also arrested Yaqoob and recovered a pistol from him.

According to police, the under-trail prisoners Abdur Rashid and Mohammad Fiyaz had allegedly killed Chanzeb son of Mir Abdullah, Niyaz son of Abdur Rehman and Gul Faraz son of Pir Mohammad on Jan 17, 1999. The deceased Gul Faraz was brother of Ibrar alias Iqbal Bala, a member of Mansehra tehsil council.
