KARACHI, June 10: Sindh Chief Minister Dr Arbab Ghulam Rahim on Thursday visited Jamiatul Uloom Al-Islamiyya, Binnori Town, and condoled the tragic death of distinguished religious scholar Mufti Nizamuddin Shamzai.

He met Maulana Anwar Sharfi, Mohammed Suleman Binnori, Mufti Aminuddin, Maulana Imdadullah and others ulema at the institution and offered fateha for the departed soul. The CM was accompanied by Irfanullah Marwat, Dr Sohrab Sarki, Arbab Abdullah, Dr Dost Mohammed Memon, chief secretary, additional chief secretary (home) and other officials.

Dr Arbab told the ulema that maintaining law and order was the responsibility of the government and in this regard he would use all available resources to bring about an improvement in the situation.

He held out the assurance that said pious and good people would be extended all cooperation and support. Terrorists, he added, would not be allowed to go scot-free. He pointed out that an impartial inquiry into Mufti Shamzai's assassination was under way and justice would be restored accordingly.

The chief minister, along with the delegation, also visited the Imambargah Ali Raza where a bomb blast had claimed many lives recently. Senator Allama Abbas Kumaili, Allama Hasan Turabi, Amir Abidi and Dr Manzoor Leghari were also present on the occasion.

The CM directed the administration and law-enforcement agencies to beef up security measures at all places of worship and those entering be subjected to proper search.

He announced that the imambargah would be reconstructed at government's expenses and compensation would be paid to the affected families. He also directed the concerned SHO to keep a vigilant eye on the movement of suspects.

The chief minister on Thursday visited Quaid-i-Azam mausoleum and paid homage to the Founder of Pakistan. Former ministers, including Syed Sardar Ahmed and Arif Jatoi, accompanied the CM. They laid a floral wreath and offered fateha at the Mazar.

Later, media men asked the chief minister for his comments on Thursday morning attack at Clifton. The CM told them that he did not have a magic wand to bring an improvement in the law and order situation overnight. He, however, said that every step would be taken to provide protection to the life and property of people.

CENTRAL JAIL: Chief Minister Dr Arbab Ghulam Rahim visited the Central Prison Karachi on Wednesday night and ordered provision of ceiling fans and water coolers for all barracks of the jails throughout the province.

He impressed upon the jail administrations to implement jail manual fully and announced that he would soon be visiting the jails in upper Sindh and review conditions there personally.

SURPRISE VISIT: Chief Minister Dr Arbab Ghulam Rahim on Thursday paid a surprise visit to the New Sindh Secretariat at 9am and took notice of the absence of a number of secretaries and other senior officials.

He went round every floor of the secretariat and visited offices of secretaries. He issued directives to all secretaries and senior officials to ensure their arrival in their respective offices latest by 8.30am and inform the principal secretary before starting official work.

The CM also took notice of the dilapidated condition of the auditorium and other offices at the secretariat and asked the chief secretary to arrange for proper cleanliness and sanitary conditions in all blocks.
