LAHORE, June 8: An Inter-Provincial Conference of Information Technology Ministers of all the four provinces is being held here on Wednesday (today).

Punjab IT Minister Abdul Aleem Khan will preside over the conference aims at devising a joint strategy for expansion of the IT sector in the country.

According to Mr Aleem Khan, through the conference, the participating IT ministers from all the four provinces will put across the concern of provinces on the proposed imposition of the GST on the IT industry to the federal government.

The Sindh government, he said had already conveyed its concern to the federal government. He said that the Punjab IT department would also express its concern over the decision of the federal government as this decision could impede the expansion of the local IT industry.

Quoting the Sindh IT minister, Mr Aleem said the Dubai Internet City had expressed interest in investment in Lahore, Islamabad and Sindh provided they were given adequate pieces of land in the respective areas.

Aleem Khan maintained that the IT sector must be developed in such a way that the purpose of public service could also be achieved. The IT minister informed that necessary planning was being chalked out to introduce IT literacy in all government schools in the Punjab from the primary level. This decision would help the poorest of the poor to acquaint with the IT literacy, he added. -PPI
