KARACHI, June 2: Acting president of the Muttahida Majlis-i- Amal, Qazi Hussain Ahmad, has said that education sector is not given its legitimate status in the country. He was talking to a delegation of Islami Jamiat Talba, led by Taufeequddin Siddiqui, on Wednesday.

Qazi Hussain said that he supported the IJT demand that education sector be allocated at least five per cent of national income. He promised that he would put this demand before the national assembly.

He demanded of the government to hold elections for student unions. He said, "If students are not allowed to practise politics, how army has got the authority to indulge in politics."

The MMA leader further demanded that books containing anti- Islam material should be removed from markets. He said that the people who made anti-Islamic changes in curricula were being protected instead of being awarded punishment.

It proved that the changes in curricula were a well-conceived conspiracy to distract youngsters from glorious Islamic traditions, he viewed. IJT Nazim Karachi University Amir Ashraf, Nazim East Zone Hassan Jawwad and Secretary Information Hamidur Rehman also attended the meeting. -PPI
