KARACHI, June 2: City Nazim Naimatullah Khan visited Lyari on Wednesday and inspected the cleaning of drainage nullahs and construction work of roads in the area. DCO Mir Hussain Ali, EDO (Works and Services) Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqui, EDO (Building Control) Brig (retd) A.S. Nasir, Lyari Town Nazim Abdul Khaliq Jumaa, and other officials accompanied Naimatullah Khan during his visit.

City Nazim directed the officials concerned to get the cleaning work of drainage system completed at fast pace. Giving briefing on the occasion, Brig A.S. Nasir said that there were 29 drainage nullahs in the city and cleaning work in these nullahs had been started. Huts and garbage accumulated in these nullahs were the main hurdles in smooth flow of rainy water, he added.

Naimatullah Khan stressed on proper coordination with towns and other departments for the provision of human resource to get the work completed before the arrival of monsoon.

DCO Mir Hussain Ali pointed out that long-term projects for sewage and rainy water as well as for cleaning and widening of nullahs should be immediately planned. City Nazim also visited slum areas along with nullah in Lyari and inquired about the problems faced by residents of those areas.

Lyari Town Nazim informed City Nazim about the development work being carried out in Lyari. Taking notice of open ditches and manholes in these areas, particularly in Machar Colony, Mr Khan directed the officials concerned to place covers on them to avert any untoward incident.

He also directed to improve the sanitation conditions after noticing sewerage water and heaps of garbage. "Cleaning work of drainage system in Keamari and Site towns should also be expedited," he said adding that he would inspect the development works on regular basis.

Naimatullah Khan also inspected the construction work on Chowk-8 Road in Lyari. Shoaib Siddiqui informed him that the construction of this road would provide easy access to Mirza Adam Khan Road.

He also visited and inspected development work on Stadium Road, Ibrahim Rahmatullah Road, Karsaz Road and Central Island on Sharea Faisal during his three-hour long visit. -PPI
