KARACHI, May 31: An acute water shortage persists in several localities of former district East. Area people said that their locality often remains without water for weeks together and their requests for water through tankers at Jamia Millia hydrant remain unheeded for six to seven days or more.

Residents complained that although Jamia Millia hydrant was supposed to cater to water requirements of various parts of former district East, it was not unable to provide water to the residents of water-starved localities.

A resident of Kausar Town said that although his locality was without water for the past one week, he has not yet been able to contact the hydrant as its only telephone was either remains out of order or disconnected. "How can a person residing far away from the hydrant make a request for water at the hydrant when its telephone is not working," he queried.

"Isn't it a joke that although the Jamia Millia hydrant is supposed to cater to water requirements of various localities such as Malir, Khokhrapar Nos 1, 2, 3, Malir City, Azimpura, parts of Al-Falah Society, Kala Board, Malir Halt, Model Colony, Kausar Town, Pak Kausar Town, Indus Mehran, Saudia Colony's sectors 8-A, 8-B and 9, Sabir Colony, Alimabad, Jaffar Tayyar Society and a number of adjoining goths, it is without telephone nowadays," he added.

SHORTAGE: People residing on Baghdadi's D D Chaudhry Road complained that they are deprived of water for the last fortnight in the current hot and sultry weather.

They complained that although their locality off and on remains without water, KWSB's officials concerned have not yet been able to rectify the fault. They demanded of the city Nazim and the KWSB managing director to direct the officials concerned to ensure uninterrupted supply to their locality.
