KARACHI, May 31: Work is progressing fast to enhance educational facilities at the projects for rehabilitation of Lyari Expressway project shiftees.

In this regard, vocational centres are being established at Hawksbay, Taisar and Baldia towns, jointly, by the Pakistan Baitul Maal and Lyari Expressway Rehabilitation project, for imparting skills and education to the children belonging to low-income families.

Such a vocational centre has already been inaugurated at Hawksbay project site office, where some 45 girls are getting education and training in sewing and embroidery.

For these centres, which combine primary school with sewig, embroidery and computer education, the space has been provided by the LEW Rehabilitation Project, while the matters pertaining to staff recruitment and purchase of furniture, besides other administrative affairs, are being looked after by the PBM.

A significant feature of these centres is that not only the girl children are imparted free education there, but they are also provided uniform, books, pens, shoes, school bags etc free of cost by the PBM.

They are also given pocket money of Rs10 daily, while their parents are given a monthly stipend of Rs300. Such centres would also be set up at Taisar and Baldia rehabilitation sites with the cooperation of the Pakistan Baitul Maal, it was learnt. - APP
