MUZAFFARABAD, May 30: Kashmiri Mujahideen groups have condemned the Saturday's grenade attack on the residence of former All-Parties Hurriyat Conference chief Mirwaiz Umar Farooq in Srinagar, blaming it on the Indian "agencies."

"I strongly condemn this act which undoubtedly is a conspiracy to create a rift between the pro-freedom forces and (a bid to) trap them into infighting," said Hizbul Mujahideen leader Syed Salahuddin in a statement on Sunday.

"Whoever are behind this act are ... tools of Indian agencies," he said. Advising freedom forces not to resort to violence, Umar Farooq said political differences could be resolved with mutual understanding.

Syed Salahuddin, who also heads the Muttahida Jihad Council, an alliance of mujahideen groups battling Indian rule in the held Kashmir, also blamed Indian agencies for the incident, saying they were out to exploit such situations.

"They are trying their best to create a split in the ranks of the freedom seeking people of Kashmir." He appealed to the Kashmiri leaders to forge unity and lead the nation to achieve the goal of freedom.

A spokesman for Al Umar Mujahideen also condemned the grenade attack on the residence of Mirwaiz as well as the firing on one of his relatives Moulvi Mushtaq Ahmed outside a mosque.

He denied a report by a foreign news agency which quoted Al Umar Mujahideen as having claimed the responsibility for the attack on Moulvi Mushtaq. "These are the acts of anti (freedom) movement elements who want to impair and defame the Kashmiris' indigenous struggle," the spokesman told this correspondent here.

"We will unearth the perpetrators shortly," spokesman Abu Usama said. He said Mirwaiz was a revered leader whose family had been rendering unmatchable services for the freedom movement for several decades.
