GUJRANWALA, May 25: The father of a lawyer was kidnapped and shot dead by his rivals over an agricultural land dispute in Tetley on Tuesday. Haji Tawakkal Husain, the father of Advocate Farhan Tawakkal, was standing at Artali Khurd village bus stop when accused Agha Farrukh, Mushtaq, Bilal and Arif kidnapped him.

They took him to Khanpur village, Sheikhupura, where they shot him dead and threw his body on the bank of canal. Tetley police have registered a case and are investigating.

SENTENCED: The anti-terrorism court No 2 convicted four people of murder on Tuesday. Convicts Kashif, Muhammad Ali, Irshad Ahmad and Muhammad Mansha were handed down life term for killing Head-Constable Riaz during dacoity. They were also fined Rs75,000 each.

According to the prosecution, the convicts were robbing passers-by by setting up a picket in Laveriwala village, Sodara. They opened fire on police patrol killing the head-constable on the spot.

JEWELLER ROBBED: A jeweller was deprived of cash and gold jewellry worth Rs800,000 on GT Road on Tuesday. Jeweller Zaman was going to Gujrat by his car when he was intercepted by three robbers.

They snatched Rs400,000 in cash and jewellry worth Rs400,000 and fled from the scene. Hashish seized: Lalamusa city police claimed on Tuesday to have recovered 3.6 kilograms of hashish from the house of a court deserter.
