QUETTA, May 24: The Pishin Scouts has foiled an attempt to smuggle arms, drugs and other contraband items into Pakistan from across the border and arrested a drug smuggler on Sunday.

According to sources the troops of Pishin Scouts, a wing of the Frontier Corps, raided a hideout of the gunrunners near Pakistan-Afghanistan border and recovered illegal arms brought from Afghanistan for onward smuggling into Pakistan.

The arms recovered from the hideout of the gunrunners included 24 machine guns, a large number of rockets and rocket launchers, several rifles and a huge quantity of rounds.

"Illegal weapons were smuggled into Pakistan for terrorist activities," a senior officer of Pishin Scouts told this correspondent by telephone from the border town of Chaman.

HASHISH SEIZED: In another raid the troops intercepted a car and recovered 330kg of hashish packed in secret cavities in the car. The owner of the car was also arrested.

The officials of the border force also seized a tractor trolley carrying contraband including 30 metric tons of beetle nuts, refrigerators, television sets and medicines near Toba Achakzai area. However, no arrests could be made during the raid as the driver escaped taking the benefit of the darkness.
