KARACHI, May 23: Hafiz Fazal Karim was elected president of the Karachi chapter of Pakistan Tehrik-i-Insaaf (PTI) on Sunday, following elections in which the party workers participated in large numbers. Shahnawaz Siddiqui was declared elected unopposed as general secretary.

The polling took place in the presence of Imran Khan, the party chief, besides other leaders, including Shahid Zulfiqar, Jahangir Rehman, Zubair Khan and Dr Hassan Raza Memon.

The names of the other candidates declared elected by the election commissioner, Subhan Ali Sahil, are: Iqbal Zafar, Adnan Khan, Riaz Effendi, Bismillah Khan (vice-presidents); Amanullah Siddiqui (cultural secretary); Mujibur Rehman (literacy secretary); and Jawad Ahmed (information secretary).

Ashraf Memon (senior vice-president), Imran Ali Sher (finance secretary), Muqeemuddin Athar and S. Ejaz Hussein Anjum (joint secretaries), Zahid Arain (publicity secretary), Inayatullah Khattak (public and welfare secretary) and Ateeq Qureshi (legal secretary) were also declared elected unopposed.
