KARACHI, May 17: Various parts of the city on Monday either went dry or received scant water supply in the wake of a shortfall of 30 million gallons suffered by the city on Sunday.

Pumping from Dhabeji station's Phase-II had remained suspended from 10am to 8.30pm on Sunday as switches of the substation had burnt out, reportedly owing to an overload on the transformer at the KWSB's end. This was stated to be the reason for the shortfall.

Although a spokesman for the KWSB claimed on Monday that water supply from four pumps of the Phase-II had been restored, residents of different areas continued to complain of an acute water shortage. Similar complaints were received from Clifton's blocks 2, 3, 4 and 5.

Residents of Clifton's block 2 regretted that the concerned KWSB officials had not bothered to rectify the fault despite the fact that the shortage persisted for the past several months and a number of complaints had already been lodged.

"On the one hand, we are getting scant supply with low pressure and, on the other, the supply schedule is frequently changed without intimating the consumers," an elderly person of the locality said.
