KARACHI, May 16: The Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal has announced that it will boycott the inquiry beginning from Monday by Justice Muhammad Sadiq Leghari into allegations of irregularities and violence in by-elections on three national and one provincial assemblies constituencies in Karachi.

This is one of the decisions taken by MMA Sindh Council in its session held at Masjid-i-Qaba on Sunday. MNA Maulana Asadullah Bhutto, who was flanked by Qari Muhammad Osman, Rashid Naseem, Hafiz Muhammad Taqi, Dr Mumtaz Memon and Maulana Omar Sadiq, addressing a hurriedly-called press conference at Karachi Press Club read out its eight demands.

Asadullah Bhutto said that the MMA demanded an inquiry commission comprising three senior judges of the Supreme Court to probe into the allegations. He announced that the MMA would observe protest day on Friday in the province and warned if its demands were not met, the alliance would launch a movement.

He further said that the MMA would come out with a white paper within a week pertaining to rigging, irregularities and killing of plunder incidents. Other MMA demands are: The results of Wednesday's by- elections held in Karachi be declared null and void. New schedule be announced for holding fresh by-elections.

Fresh by-elections be held under the supervision of army to check incidents of terrorism. Chief Election Commissioner, governor, adviser to chief minister on home affairs, and CCPO should be sacked.

In order to ensure holding of fair and transparent by- elections, steps should be taken to implement the proposals submitted by the MMA to the Election Commission on May 4.

The heirs of those killed on the polling day and post polling day violence should be given compensation at least of five million rupees each and those injured should be provided free treatment as well as some compensation.

Separate FIRs be registered of the affectees for those killed, injured, and kidnapped and all those involved should be arrested and be given exemplary punishment.

The MMA also demanded that instead of providing cover to the terrorists of Hyderi Mosque by terming it a suicide attack, the real culprits should be arrested and inquiry should be conducted in the right direction.

CASES: MMA MNAs Muhammad Hussain Mehanti, Abdul Sattar Afghani and Muhammad Laeeq Khan have expressed concern over institution of false cases against Town Nazim Liaquatabad Dr Pervez Mehmood by the Muttahida Qaumi Movement.

Condemning the MQM attitude, they warned that if the cases were not withdrawn, the rulers would be responsible for the consequences. Meanwhile, the MMA General Workers Convention, held on Saturday night at Idara Noor-i-Haq, adopted a resolution demanding cases of murder be registered against MQM candidate Nisar Panhwer, MNA Amir Liaquat Hussain, provincial ministers Shoaib Bokhari and Shakir Ali, adds PPI.

Addressing the workers, Prof Ghafoor Ahmad said that the MMA would raise voice in the upper house on killings of its workers. He said, "The idol of MQM in Karachi has fallen and their leaders do not dare to return to the country. Terrorism and vandalism shows the cowardliness of Muttahida," he remarked.

Syed Munawer Hassan said that terrorism and vandalism could not be eliminated from the city until Ishratul Ibad was governor of the province. He asked the federal government to take notice of the situation in Liaquatabad and Sharifabad where MMA workers were not being allowed to return to their homes.
