JACOBABAD, May 16: Prime Minister Mir Zafarullah Khan Jamali has said that his government is committed to working for people's well-being and prosperity.
Addressing a gathering after inaugurating the Al-Rashid Al-Maktoom maternity home here on Sunday, he said that efforts were being made to rescue the country from the economic mess.
Several major development projects had already been launched, he added. He announced a grant of Rs10 million for the Al-Rashid Al-Maktoom hospital and Rs20 million for the coronary care unit, Civil Hospital, Jacobabad.
He informed the gathering that a potable water project in Jacobabad would be launched by June with the assistance of the FWO. He said that the drainage system of the city would also be revamped.
Mr Jamali said that a 26-kilometre-long Jacobabad-Dera Murad bypass project was in progress. He said that the Shikarpur-Jacobabad-Quetta road would be repaired and Sukkur and Rohri would be connected with the Indus Highway.
He disclosed that funds for development projects in Garhi Khero, Kashmor, Kandhkot and Thul had been released. Our Sukkur Correspondent adds: Earlier, Mr Jamali visited the Sheranpur village where he performed Dastarbandi of Abdul Nabi Thaheem, son of Sardar Sher Dil Thaheem, at a ceremony to install him as the Sardar of the Thaheem clan.
LAW AND ORDER: Meanwhile, presiding over a high-level meeting in Jacobabad to discuss the law and order situation in Sindh and Balochistan, Mr Jamali emphasized the need for improving and organizing the intelligence system to bust the network of terrorists in the country.
He said that it was the responsibility of the government to provide protection to people and added that any lapse in this regard would not be tolerated.
He called upon intelligence agencies to keep a vigilant eye on elements who were trying to spark sectarian violence in the country. Later, Mr Jamali was briefed about the ongoing operation of police against bandits.
