NAUSHAHRO FEROZE, May 13: District council members at a meeting held here on Wednesday criticized the government for not providing development funds directly to union council nazims.

District naib nazim Syed Hassan Ali Shah presided over the session which had to be postponed for want of quorum as only about 10 members were present. However, the naib nazim and the DCO, while supporting the demand of the members, expressed their inability to do anything in this connection.

APCA: About 200 members of the All Pakistan Clerks Association took out a procession from the DCO office here on Thursday to protest against the assistant district education officer (male) for his alleged misuse of funds.

APCA district president Ghulam Shabbir Chandio and secretary- general Nadeem Vistro complained that the ADO, besides misbehaving with the staff, was misusing government funds. They demanded an impartial inquiry into the matter.

CANAL BREACH: A 50-foot breach occurred in the Nusrat Canal at RD-4, some four kilometres off Kandiaro, on Wednesday. The breach which occurred at about 5am, inundated Baharo, Jio, Soonharo and Abdul Kareem Ghanghro villages besides destroying tons of wheat lying in the fields for threshing.

Villagers told journalists that they had informed the Padidan SDO but no irrigation official came over and they had to plug the gap themselves and added that if the officials had responded on time, the loss could have been reduced.

When contacted, a telephone operator at the SDO office said that the sub-divisional officer as well as the Moro executive engineer left for the site at about 8.30am.
