HYDERABAD, May 13: A bench of the Sindh High Court, Hyderabad circuit, on Thursday directed the district and sessions judge of Nawabshah to conduct an inquiry into the detention of a man and submit a report before the court on May 20.

An elderly woman, Akbar Khatoon, had filed a petition before the court, seeking release of her son. The bench, comprising Justice Ghulam Rabbani and Justice Mohammad Mujeebullah Siddiqui, passed the order after the detainee was not produced before the court by the Nawabshah police despite being directed by a Hyderabad bench of the Sindh High Court.

Sindh additional advocate general Masood A. Noorani proposed to the bench to refer the matter to the district and sessions judge for holding an inquiry into the matter.

SACKED EMPLOYEES: Thirty-four sacked employees of the Civil Hospital of Hyderabad on Thursday described comments of the Sindh health secretary and the hospital medical superintendent before a bench of the Sindh High Court, Hyderabad circuit, as vague and based on manipulated reports.

The counsel of the sacked employees who had filed a joint petition before the court submitted a rejoinder to para-wise comments of the health secretary and the medical superintendent.

The rejoinder said that the respondents' comments were vague, self-contradictory and based on manipulated reports. The counsel denied favouritism in the appointments and said that 25 committees had been formed for the purpose with the approval of the competent authority.

The court adjourned the matter after the Sindh additional advocate general sought time to argue the case.

Cotton Gutted: A large quantity of cotton bales and a truck were gutted in the jurisdiction of Sakhipir police station on Wednesday morning. A cotton laden truck (PD-0935) was on its way to the Saeed and Company godown when it hit an electric pole. As a result a high tension live wire fell and the vehicle caught fire.

Labourers threw some of the burning bales after which the entire godown was engulfed in flames. Another truck which was parked inside the godown was completely gutted and the truck which brought the cotton was partly damaged.
