ISLAMABAD, May 10: The Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited (PTCL) is considering a reduction in its international and nationwide call rates besides offering special packages to its customers soon.

"The under-consideration strategy is expected to be completed by the end of this month and hopefully the PTCL will be able to announce reduction in tariffs during the next month," said Junaid I. Khan, newly-appointed President and CEO of the PTCL.

He said efforts were being made to promote the PTCL as profit earning entity and "this is our commitment to provide quality services at reasonable rates". In an interview with APP here on Sunday, the PTCL chief said besides reduction in tariffs, peak and off-peak timings were also being reviewed to facilitate more than four million PTCL customers and to meet the deregulation challenges.

Mr Khan said only last year the PTCL reduced fixed line rent by 33 per cent while domestic and international call charges were also cut down substantially. He said plans were being implemented so that telephone connection could become a non-issue in the coming years.

Replying to a question, Mr Khan said a recently launched prepaid billing card system had received positive public response, and added it would be extended to other cities and rural areas soon. -APP
