ISLAMABAD, May 9: Muhammad Munir of PTCL on Sunday claimed the professional crown in the President of Pakistan Gold Medal Open golf championship at the Islamabad Club carding seven under 209.

Although Munir, who had led the field on the first two days, played a round of one under 71 on the final day, he finished ahead of Gymkhana's Abbas Ali who had a score of 212 and third placed Javed Inayat who was two under 214.

Capt Zafar Mahmood of Karachi, a six handicapper, captured the net title with a net score of 212 while a stroke behind at 213 net was Qaiser Hussain. Overnight leader Wng Cdr Ehtesham had a poor day which saw him triple bogeying twice on holes 16 and 18 with two double bogeys and seven bogeys. He had a net score of 217.

Shahid Javed Khan captured the amateurs gross honours with five over par 221 while a stroke adrift was Rawalpindi's Vaqas Ahmed followed by Waseem Rana who finished with seven over par 223.

Munir, who had identical rounds of 69 on Friday and Saturday, had three birdies on holes seven, 13 and 17 and bogeyed twice on the final day. Rubab Haider was the winner of the ladies net title with a score of net 148 as Sarah Mahmood (net 154) came in second. In the gross competition Tahira Nazir emerged the champion scoring 173 while Yasmin Mubarak (180) was the runner-up.

Naval chief, Admiral Shahid Karimullah, was the chief guest and gave away prizes to the winners of the championship that attracted over 300 golfers.
