LAHORE, May 7: Top seed Mansoor Zaman and second seed Shahid Zaman cruised into the International squash tournament final at the Punjab Squash Complex on Friday, both winning easily. The final will be played on Saturday at 3:30pm.
The world No 19, Mansoor beat world No 65 Majid Khan 15-12, 15-10, 15-8 in 37 minutes. Mansoor had a fine start taking 8-3 lead but Majid caught up with him at 10 and then forged ahead 11-10, but Mansoor with three nick shots and two forehand winners won the game.
Down at 11-6, Majid won three points to reduce the lead. But, he hit the board twice allowing Mansoor to win the second game. It seemed Majid would stretch the semifinal with a 4-0 lead he took due to Mansoor being erratic, but his hopes were dashed as Mansoor levelled the score at 6-6 with a couple of nick shots and strokes.
From then on, Mansoor kept on attacking and won the game and the match dropping only two more points. Shahid, world No.35 beat his cousin Farrukh Zaman 15-10, 15-13, 15-11 in 41 minutes. He was on the rampage winning the first game in just 10 minutes. Farrukh came as close as 7-6 and then 8-9 but failed to maintain momentum and lost the game.
Farrukh displayed improved performance in the second game. He not only caught Shahid at 11-11, but also forged ahead 12-11 when the latter hit the tin. But erratic Farrukh soon allowed Shahid to pull level the next moment. Shahid doubled the lead when Farrukh failed to return a forehanded from the backside glass.
