KARACHI, May 6: A young man was shot dead by unknown persons in Liaquatabad on Thursday. Police said the body of an unidentified young man was found on the main road in Qasimabad area of Liaquatabad.

The victim had suffered a single bullet wound and died on the spot. Police shifted the body to the Abbasi Hospital for postmortem. Police claimed that a TT pistol and nine rounds were recovered from the possession of the young man.

Following the postmortem examination, the body was shifted to the Edhi morgue for identification, police added. Police suspected that the victim was trying to snatch a motorcycle, but he was shot at in the attempt.

ACCIDENT: Two persons died in a road accident in Qayoomabad on Thursday evening. Police said that the accident occurred when a speeding coach hit a car.

The car (AFK-068) escaped the accident with minor damage, but the coach (PE-4380) over-turned while saving the car, resulting into two instant deaths. Eight others were injured in the accident, police said.

One of the dead was identified as Mohammad Nawab while the other victim could not be immediately identified, police added. The injured and the dead were taken to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre.

In another accident, a young cyclist died in a hit-and-run accident in SITE area. Police said that 19-year old cyclist who could not be immediately identified was knocked down by a speeding vehicle near Bawani Challi, SITE.

The young victim was rushed to the Civil Hospital, where he died during treatment.

LOOTED: A woman was deprived of gold ornaments and other valuables by two armed suspects at Baloch Colony Expressway on Wednesday. According to reports, a woman was waiting for her daughter in a car outside the Iqra University near Defence View when unknown youths on a motorcycle came and demanded valuables at gunpoint.

They took her purse containing a gold chain and original documents of the car. The armed suspects also tried to snatch the gold bangles the lady was wearing, but decided not to do so, as it was a time-consuming exercise.

Subsequently, they snatched her purse, and escaped, the woman told Dawn. When the victim went to the Baloch Colony police station to lodge an FIR, a duty officer told her that a significant number of robberies were taking place outside the University premises.

They usually patrol the area, but due to some fault, police mobile was under-going repairs on Wednesday, he told the woman.

TRADER RECOVERED: A businessman, Abdul Aziz, who had been kidnapped on Wednesday, was freed by the kidnappers on Thursday evening after the police and the CPLC conducted a joint raid in Shershah.

According to the Citizen-Police Liaison Committee, Haji Abdul Aziz was kidnapped for ransom after he left his factory on Wednesday evening in Niabad, Lyari. The captors used his mobile phone to demand ransom from his family.

Anti-Violent Crime Cell (AVCC) SP Farooq Awan said that a Rs450,000 deal had been struck. In the meantime, the police with the help of the CPLC intercepted the signals of the mobile phone and traced the location of the kidnappers. When the police raided the place, the kidnappers released Abdul Aziz and fled the scene.
