PESHAWAR, May 4: Fourteen union council Nazims tendered resignations on Tuesday in protest against alleged non-cooperative attitude of Town-III Nazim Yasin Khan Khalil. Palosi Union Council Nazim Pir Fida Mohammad presented the resignations to District Council Convener Dr Iqbal Khalil. He blamed Mr Yasin for failing to resolve public problems.

He said the town administration had not installed any streetlight. He said the administration had failed to resolve the problems of clean drinking water, streetlights and sanitation.

He said the attitude of the town Nazim had forced 14 union council Nazims to resign. He said District Nazim Azam Afridi had supported the town administration.

Those who resigned are: Ibadatullah Khan, Saeedullah Khalil, Ghulam Rasool, Malik Mehr Zaman, Mohammad Hamun Khalil, Pir Fida, Kiramatullah Khalil, Malik Noshad, Ishfaq Khalil, Haji Shakirullah, Mohammad Ijaz Khalil, Ali Jan Khan, Zahid Hussain and Sirajul Haq Yousafzai.

VEGETABLE MARKET: Earlier, the district council, after a day-long discussion, endorsed the shifting of the vegetable market from the Inqilab Road to the Grand Trunk Road.

It demanded that the province should hand over the market's management to the district government. Haji Hanif presented the resolution regarding approval of the shifting.

The members said that the old vegetable market was constructed with foreign aid at a cost of Rs90 million but no facility was provided tofarmers and shopkeepers there. The city Nazim said he and the district coordination officer had discussed the matter with the chief minister, who had formed a committee, the report of which would be submitted soon.

He asked the provincial government to hand over the management of themarket to the city district government and said it was ready to clear all foreign liabilities within two years.
