HYDERABAD, April 30: Civil Judge Aijaz Khaskheli remanded a couple to police custody here on Friday after they were produced in the court by the investigation wing of the Government Officers Residence police in a Hudood Ordinance case.

Zubaida, daughter of Haji Abdul Rehman Oadh, was produced before the civil judge by the police along with her husband Ghulam Shabbir and brother-in-law Ghulam Qadir. The woman recorded her statement in which she said that she had married of her own free will and was not kidnapped.

However, her husband and brother-in-law were remanded to police custody for six days. Cantonment ASP Fareed Ali Shah told this correspondent that Zubaida had been kept in the women police station for her own security as her family, claiming that she was already married, had produced a Nikahnama before the court.

The GOR police had registered a case on complaint of the brother of the woman, Mohammad Yasin, who claimed that her sister was forcibly taken away by the accused on April 19 from her house in Babban Shah Colony.
