KARACHI, April 29: The authorities in the city district government Karachi have unearthed several cases of fraud in the procurement of medicines for health care units of the CDGK.

Hundreds of cases of embezzlement through fake quotations are presently being probed by the authorities in which two officials of the health department are allegedly involved.

The embezzlement and misappropriation in the procurement of medical supplies came to the knowledge of the department concerned when an official of the CDGK, ignoring the EDO Health, unlawfully called quotations for the purchase of laboratory items for the Gazdarabad General Hospital.

According to the health department, around Rs2.5 million have been earned by an official involved in the scam through fake quotations. "No record of medical items has been found and no one knows the whereabouts of these items when the record was scrutinised," sources said.

The matter, it is learnt, has been brought to the knowledge of the city high-ups and a detailed inquiry report about this fraud is being prepared, which would be moved to the City Nazim for taking an action against these officials. -PPI
