KARACHI, April 9: The city government's advisory committee on Friday expressed its dissatisfaction over the performance of police.

The committee, chaired by City Nazim Niamatullah Khan, resolved that since the capital city police officer (CCPO) had failed in maintaining law and order in the city, the inspector-general of Sindh police should immediately take notice of the situation.

Lashing out at poor performance of the police in maintaining law and order, Liaquatabad Town's nazim, Dr Pervez Mehmood, said that recent brutal murder of PPP MPA Abdullah Murad, killing of five youths in Gulistan-i-Jauhar's Raza Square, recovery of five bodies from Hub and an armed attack on two sons of Lyari Town's nazim, besides other incidents of lawlessness, tell a lot about the deteriorating law and order.

Discussing the ongoing demolition activities of the KBCA, the city nazim said that most of the houses were either being demolished illegally or the legal formalities for such a 'drastic' action were not being fulfilled by the authority.

Emphatically declaring that the CDGK had no role in the current demolition campaign launched by the KBCA, Mr Khan said that as a matter of fact, in some cases, people belonging to a certain group were being targeted under the garb of such a campaign.

Referring to the situation prevailing in Malir and Orangi towns, the nazim demanded of Sindh Chief Minister Sardar Ali Mohammad Mahar to conduct a probe, through a Sindh High Court judge, into the alleged illegal works being carried out at both the towns.

He also urged the chief minister to take notice of the fact that Shahid Alam alias Guddu Behari was not being allowed to take charge as Nazim of Orangi Town although the SHC had declared the Sindh government's decision of his removal from the seat of nazim as illegal.

At the outset, members of advisory committee staged a token walkout to voice their protest over the attitude of Karachi DCO and other officials of the CDGK towards the committee.

Complaining about the indifferent attitude of DCO Mir Hussain Ali and some other officials of the CDGK, Gulshan-i-Iqbal Town's Nazim, Abdul Wahab, said that agenda of the advisory committee's meeting should be conveyed to all its members about a fortnight ahead of the meeting, but he received the agenda of the Friday's meeting just a day before on Thursday.
