KHAIRPUR, May 19: People held protests against the police in three different places on Sunday.
Talpar tribesmen held a protest demonstration and observed token hunger strike outside the Bozdar Wada press club against police excesses.
They were led by the Nazim Union Council Sabar Rind.
Talking to newsmen, they alleged that the in charge of the Bozdar Wada police chowki came to their houses three days ago and asked for two sacks of wheat grain but when they refused to do so the in charge and Munshi of the police chowki took away two motorcycles from two men, Mazhar Ali and Shoban Ali.
Later, on being paid bribe by one of them, the police returned the motorcycle to its owner.
The tribesmen threatened to hold a protest sit-in in front of the offices of the district Nazim and the DPO if the police did not stop harassing them.
LAW AND ORDER: During an open poll people held the police responsible for the deteriorating law and order situation.
Some people opined that robberies, dacoities, and killings had become the order of the day. They said that the outlaws were committing crimes in broad daylight but the police was doing nothing about it, and added that in fact it was arresting innocent people.
Meanwhile, the main trading centres of Kot Mair Mohammed remained closed on Sunday against the killing of a businessman, Haji Shahan, on Saturday.
PROTEST: The villagers of Faiz Ganj Taluka held a protest demonstration and staged a sit-in on the Nawabshah-Kumb road against the police for not lodging an FIR on Sunday. The protesters surrounded the Faiz Ganj police station in anger when they were threatened by its ASI, Sarwar.
Talking to newsmen, they said that some unknown armed men had snatched a motorcycle from one Tariq Hussain but the police had refused to register a case.
DEMO HELD: Activists of the Chondiko Citizens Ittehad, and political and social parties held a protest demonstration against the opening of a bar in Chondiko town.
POWER FAILURES: Hesco Chief Executive Brig Tariq Arshad has said that an inquiry would be initiated into the unauthorized suspension of electricity supply to some parts of the district.
Talking to newsmen here the other day, he said that electricity supply to the street lights of Khairpur city and the taluka council was disconnected because the council did not pay the bill amounting to Rs12.3 million.
He said that customer service centres had been established throughout the province, where consumers could submit their applications for correction of bills and assured that their problems would be solved within a week.
