KARACHI, May 19: The body of a young man, kidnapped a couple of days ago in Defence, was found in his car’s boot in Korangi Industrial Area late on Saturday night.

Police said Yousuf Gangat, 26, was kidnapped by unknown persons somewhere near Phase-II, Defence Housing Authority, on the night of May 17.

Police said the victim had left his residence in Phase-II in his car at around 8:30pm to visit a friend. At midnight his father called him on his mobile phone. During the conversation, the victim’s father realized that his son was being kidnapped.

He called the police and also informed the CPLC about the incident.

Later, the family received a call demanding Rs10 million in ransom for the victim’s release.

The family told the kidnappers that they needed time to arrange the amount.

The police said the kidnappers contacted the family the next day, but during the conversation they hung up the phone. The chowkidar of the Korangi Darul Uloom, Korangi Industrial Area, informed the police about a car parked near the Darul Uloom late on Saturday night.

Police reached the spot and found the trussed-up body in the boot of the car (ACR-291).

Police said the victim had been strangled.

Later the body was identified by his relatives. It was taken to the Jinnah Hospital for post-mortem examination, police added.

Yousuf was a nephew of the Dawn Group’s General Manager (Finance), Shabbir Ahmed Gangat.
