KARACHI, April 1: An orientation workshop on the revised BSc/BA/BCom. Home Economics, Compulsory English Course 2004 for in-service English teachers at degree level commenced here on Thursday.

The two-day workshop is being held under the auspices of the English Department, University of Karachi, in collaboration with the Oxford University Press, Pakistan.

The aim of the workshop is to acquaint the participants with the new textbooks and to suggest methodologies and strategies for more effective and meaningful teaching and testing of English at under-graduate level.

Various academic sessions on familiarization of different sections of the textbooks - reading, writing and grammar - were followed by a colloquium on the testing of the revised syllabus.

The facilitators at the event are Ms Ambreena Kazi, Chairperson of the KU's English Department, Prof Zakia Sarwar, head of the National Committee on English, Higher Education Commission, Prof Nasreen Ahsan, Ms Pervez Hussain, Abbas Hussain, Farida Faizullah, Naushaba Moosvi, Tayyab Zaidi.

Speaking on the occasion, dean of KU Faculty of Arts appreciated the cooperation extended by the OUP to the university in undertaking a revision of the compulsory English syllabus after 23 years and helping in organizing the first ever orientation workshop. -APP
