KARACHI, March 26: The City District Government Karachi has sought its involvement in appointment of teachers in schools and colleges from the Sindh Government to maintain standard and merit during the process.
This suggestion was placed in a meeting with the City Nazim, Naimatullah Khan, in the chair on Friday and attended by DCO Karachi Mir Hussain Ali, EDO Education Rais Alvi and other officials of the CDGK.
It was decided in the meeting that monitoring teams of CDGK would visit educational institutes of the city to check the attendance of teachers and students from next academic year and would present its report to the City Nazim.
"The City Nazim Karachi, the DCO Karachi and the EDO colleges will pay surprise visits to educational institutes and would check attendance registers maintained by schools and colleges so that attendance of teachers and students could be ensured," it was decided.
The City Nazim said that steps be taken on priority basis to promote and raise the standard of education, which is need of the time. He directed that reminders be forwarded to secretary of education Sindh so that impediments, hindering promotion of education, could be removed with mutual consensus.
The meeting decided that the DCO Karachi, the EDO Works and Services and the EDO Colleges would visit different educational institutions in the city to ascertain the requirements of educational institutions, housed in old and dilapidated buildings so that their buildings could be repaired and re-constructed.
The City Nazim directed that repairing of schools and colleges, housed in old and dilapidated building should be immediately started. He sought the list of colleges which are experiencing shortage of professors, lecturers and technical staff for provision of teaching staff to them and resolving other issues confronting them.
The meeting also discussed the problems faced by educational institutions and different proposals were placed for their solution. The EDO education of the City Government, Prof. Rais Alvi, said that examinations of Intermediate classes will commence on April 20, and all the arrangements have been finalised for holding of the examinations. -PPI
