PESHAWAR, March 26: The Capital City Police have registered two separate cases against three policemen under Section 155 of the Police Ordinance and detained one of them.

This is for the first time in the province FIRs have been registered against policemen charging them with incompetence and lethargy, a senior police official said.

Head Constable Khalid of Daudzai police station was sent to prison on Friday on charges of taking a bribe from three truck drivers, sources said.

On Thursday last, three trucks had passed through the checkpoint set up by the Daudzai police on the Charsadda Road near Naguman bridge. Sources said that Constable Khalid chased these trucks and succeeded in stopping them near Hajizai, which is in the limits of the Charsadda district, adding that the constable had asked for money before letting them move ahead.

In the meantime, the SP Charsadda visited the spot and inquired about the stopping of trucks by the policeman belonging to the Peshawar district. He immediately arrested the head constable after confirming allegations of taking bribe. He was later handed over to the Peshawar police.

The Capital City Police on Friday registered the FIR and sent him to jail. Separately, the city police also registered a case against Head Constable Aurangzeb and Constable Shireen of Matani police station.

They were accused of letting a car drive free, which hit a police barricade on the Kohat Road while trying to flee after the police had signalled the car to stop for checking.
