KARACHI, March 25: City Nazim Naimatullah Khan said on Thursday that he wished to see Karachi a green city for which work is under way to control environmental pollution by planting more and more trees.

Speaking at the inaugural ceremony of Rizwan-ul-Haq Shaheed Park in Union Council No 5 in Gulshan-i-Iqbal Town, he said that the City District Government Karachi has decided to construct "model parks" in each town of the city in view of scant recreational facilities in the city.

"The CDGK has planted 1,200 date palm trees in the city, of which some could not take its roots, however, the rest are growing, he said. He said if every family of Karachi plants a tree in front of their house, there would not be dearth of trees in the city.

He maintained that work on Lyari Expressway, Northern By-Pass, provision of additional 100mgd water project is continuing at a fast pace. "Banaras Chowk roundabout is in the process of being completed whereas work on Shahrah-i-Orangi is under way," he added. -PPI
