KARACHI, March 22: Justice Shabbir Ahmed of the Sindh High Court, who is also the administrative judge of the Anti-Terrorism Courts in Karachi, on Monday accepted charge-sheets against Mohammad Athar alias Khalid Memon , an activist of the banned Lashkar-i-Jhangvi arrested in the parcel bombs case, and referred the case to ATC-I for trial.

Police submitted the charge-sheets against the accused. He was booked under the Explosive Act at the Boating Basin and Artillery Maidan police stations with co-accused Sajid Jabbar.

Sajid was earlier acquitted by the administrative judge in the case as evidence was not found against him. The Anti-Violent Crime Cell police last month arrested them at a house in Nazimabad No 3 and were already remanded in an illegal weapons and explosive material case by the trial court.

According to police, during investigations the accused admitted to having sent parcel bombs to offices of the DIG-Operation of Karachi, the SP of Civil Lines and the home department on Oct 16, 2002, which caused injuries to several police personnel. - PPI
