HYDERABAD, March 11: Residents of the Shah Faisal Colony, Mumtaz Colony, Makki Shah Road area, Latifabad-12, and Pathan Colony have appealed to the president to merge kutchi abadis of the cantonment area in taluka municipal administrations.

The residents in a joint representation, under the aegis of the Kutchi Abadis' Action Committee, Hyderabad cantonment, to President Gen Pervez Musharraf complained that due to the indifferent attitude of the Hyderabad Cantonment Board, residents and traders of the kutchi abadis were denied basic facilities which were available to residents of talukas.

The representation, which is in the form of a book, contains relevant documents and is signed by 1,200 residents and businessmen of the kutchi abadis. The signatories to the representation regretted that even residents of Shah Faisal Colony and Mumtaz Colony living adjacent to the Cantonment graveyard were not allowed to bury their dead in the graveyard.

They said union council elections had been held throughout Pakistan but no polls had been held in the Cantonment area. They said no development works had been carried out in the kutchi abadis during the last 30 years. They said there was no government school in Shah Faisal Colony.

The residents pointed out that the Makki Shah Road was the busiest road of Hyderabad but it was in ruins due to a dispute between the Cantonment board and the City taluka over its jurisdiction.
