ISLAMABAD, March 11: The Lithuanian trade delegation has proposed exchange of business delegations visit, which was aimed at enhancing current volume of bilateral trade.

This proposal was made by the visiting three-member Lithuanian delegation led by Evaldas Ingnatavicius, Under Secretary of the State of Lithuania in a meeting with secretary commerce, Kamal Afsar here on Thursday. The delegation further said although Lithuania was a small country with small population, they have promising exports and imports.

Mr Ingnatavicius hoped that future prospects of Lithuania would be brighter after joining the European Union. He further said that business organizations of both the countries should exchange visits at frequent intervals.

Lithuania would get the biggest financial assistance per capita from EU, he said and added both countries had complementary economies; therefore there were future prospects in trade for the benefit of the both.

The delegation said that Lithuania had excellent laser technology and cheap fertilizer from which Pakistan could benefit. Secretary commerce, Kamal Afsar apprised the delegation about Pakistan's economy and its trade potential and deliberated on Pakistan-EU relations and termed them warm and cordial.

However, he pointed out that there were a few irritants like the imposition of 13.1 per cent anti-dumping duty on Pakistan's exports of bedlinen to EU. He hoped that once Lithuania joined the EU formally it would support Pakistan's position since Pakistan's export sector was heavily dependent on textile sector.

He apprised the visiting delegation that most of the export was textile related, and Pakistan could export excellent fabric to Lithuania.
