HYDERABAD, March 10: Protest against the murder of People's Party Parliamentarians MPA Abdullah Murad Baloch continued throughout Sindh on the fifth consecutive day on Wednesday.
PPP activists took out processions, staged rallies and observed token hunger strikes in Hyderabad, Khairpur, Dadu, Nawabshah, Thatta, Shikarpur, Jacobabad and other parts of the province.
Speakers at protest gatherings deplored indifferent attitude of the Sindh government to the murder case of the MPA and demanded its dissolution. They also condemned an inordinate delay in the arrest of the accused, alleging that the terrorists were being protected by the government.
In Hyderabad, PPP and Sindh People's Students' Federation activists staged a sit-in and observed a token hunger strike outside the press club. As a result, the road remained blocked for two hours.
Speaking on the occasion, MPA Zahid Bhurgari, Farheen Mughal and others said that five days have passed to the murder but its FIR had not been registered. They said that protest demonstrations were being held throughout Sindh against the incident but the provincial government had remained indifferent.
They demanded that the Sindh government should be dissolved and the provincial governor should be removed. The workers of Sindh University unit of the SPSF also held a separate demonstration outside the press club and joined the hunger strike.
NAWABSHAH: On the call of party leadership, PPP activists took out a procession and held a demonstration outside the press club here to protest against the MPA's killing.
The procession started from the PPP office and, after going through Sakrand and Kutchehry roads, reached Shiraz Chowk where enraged protesters burnt tyres. Then the protesters, carrying party flags and banners, proceeded towards the press club where they held a demonstration.
Speaking on the occasion, Ghulam Qadir Chandio termed Mr Baloch's murder a conspiracy and said that it was shameful for the government that no FIR had been registered so far.
Mr Chandio accused the Muttahida Qaumi Movement of being involved in the murder. He said that the Sindh chief minister was a puppet and the governor was running the provincial government.
MPA Tariq Masood Arain and local PPP leaders, Imdad Dhamrah and Bilawal Rind, also spoke on the occasion and demanded immediate arrest of the killers of the MPA.
KHAIRPUR: Three processions were taken out by PPP activists here to condemn the murder of Mr Baloch.
Led by Manzoor Brohi, a procession was taken out from Wassan House, second was led by PPP women's wing local leaders, Yasmin Joyo and Khursheed Abbas Dasti, and the third, taken out from Jilani House, was led by Syed Shafqat Shah Bukhari.
At Panj Gulla, three processions merged and marching through Chatti Chowk, Mall Road, Civic Centre and Kutchehry Road, culminated at the press club where they staged a sit-in for two hours.
Speaking on the occasion, MPA Naeem Kharl, district PPP chief Sajid Bambhan, District Bar Association president Syed Bachal Shah and Peoples Lawyers' Forum leader Shafi Mohammad Chandio condemned the killing of the MPA. The protesters raised slogans against President Gen Pervez Musharraf and Sindh Governor Ishratul Ibad.
DADU: A large number of PPP workers took out a procession and held demonstration outside the press club here to protest against the killing of the MPA. Led by local leaders Dost Ali Jaiser and Abdul Haq Brohi, they also observed a token hunger strike outside the press club.
THATTA: The PPP took out a procession here to protest against the killing of Mr Baloch and police atrocities with party's local activists. The participants emerged from Fish Market and after marching through the main bazaar staged a sit-in on the National Highway passing through the town.
Speaking on the occasion, PPP MPAs Sassui Palijo and Humera Alwani, senior vice president, Masood Mustafa Shah, former MNA Babu Ghulam Hussain, Dr Wahid Soomro, Aijaz Khwaja and others said that the MPA's assassination was an irreparable loss to the party.
They said that Mr Baloch had fought against police atrocities and social evils and also criticized registration of concoctedFIRs against local PPP activists.
JACOBABAD: A large number of party activists took out a procession here to protest against the high profile murder. The procession started from the PPP office and was led by party's district president Dr Fida Mirani, women's wing leader Shamim Pathan, Abdul Sattar Brohi, Mohammad Aslam Abro and Firdous Begum.
The protesters, carrying banners and wearing black arm-bands passed through the Civil Hospital and District Council roads and finally arrived at the road leading to Quetta.
The enraged activists blocked the road by burning tyres on it as a result vehicular traffic remained suspended for one hour. Later, the procession reached the press club where the leaders delivered speeches.
SHIKARPUR: PPP activists, led by PPP leader Agha Siraj Durrani, took out a procession in Garhi Yasin to register their protest against delay in the arrest of the killers of Mr Baloch.
They demanded early arrest of the killers and also condemned the kidnapping of Mohammad Arif Soomro and his relatives from Hameed Jagir village, Garhi Yasin taluka.
Adds APP: A protest procession was taken out by the PPP in Mirpurkhas on Wednesday to condemn the murder of MPA Abdullah Murad Baloch. District general secretary of the party, Anwar Rajar and MPA Shamim Ara Panhwar, led the procession. Speaking on the occasion, they accused the government of failing to control the law and order.
