GUJRAT, March 10: The Lahore High Court summoned on Wednesday eight local government officials for March 16 to join hearing of a writ petition against them.

Opposition leader Ghulam Abbas Malhi of Gujrat Tehsil Council had filed a writ petition accusing the authorities concerned of committing irregularities and anomalies in running the affairs of the council.

The petitioner submitted that the ruling group had included some bogus schemes in the annual developmental programme bypassing the Naib Nazim. Those summoned by the high court include the Punjab local government secretary, Gujrat DCO, tehsil Nazim and Naib Nazim, and Gujrat TMO.

PATRICIDE: An alleged drug addict shot dead his father and injured his wife critically over a domestic dispute in Panjan Shahana, Dinga, on Wednesday.

The family of Munawar had been reprimanding him for taking drugs. He became infuriated and opened fire killing his father Khan Mohammad on the spot and injuring his wife Shazia. She was admitted to hospital with serious bullet injuries. Dinga police have registered a case with no arrest.
