PESHAWAR, March 10: About 58 platoons of the Frontier Constabulary will be deployed in the provincial capital for the one-day international match between Pakistan and India, a senior official said.

Commandant Israr Ahmad Shinwari told Dawn that about 1,800 personnel of the paramilitary force would be deployed in the city to assist capital city police to maintain law and order on the eve of the crucial one-day international match.

Apart from Peshawar, the commandant said, 150 personnel of the FC Foundation, a welfare organ of the force, had been provided to the Punjab government that would escort the Indian team during its stay in Lahore and Multan.

The two teams will play their fourth one-day international match at Arbab Niaz Cricket Stadium on March 19. Capital city police chief Tanvir Ahmad Sipra said that a comprehensive security plan was under way for the much-awaited ODI between the two arch rivals.

Keeping in view the seating capacity of the stadium and an overwhelming involvement of the spectators, the city police chief estimated that a 2,000-strong force would be required to provide security cover in and outside the stadium.

Under the plan, he said, the FC contingents would be deployed at various police stations in the district to function as anti-crime force while police would take over the ground.

He said the police force would adopt extraordinary security arrangements for the match and the department would also acquire trained sniper dogs to ensure enhanced security inside the stadium.
