GUJRANWALA, March 9: Nine candidates, including seven women, were unofficially declared elected unopposed to the local bodies here on Tuesday. Fifty-six seats of women councillors, including 25 seats of city tehsil council, have been lying vacant.

They are; Tahira Bibi elected to union council 141 Kamoki, Safia Bibi union council 142, Taslim Bibi union council 151, Nasira Tabassum union council 156, Shamim Akhtar union council 157, Inayat Bibi union council 159 and Maqsooda Bibi union council 159. The two men candidates elected unopposed are; Maqbool Ahmad to union council 141 Kamoki and Muhammad Elahi union council 144 Chak Ramdas (Wahando).

LIFE TERM: A court handed down life term to the killer of brother of prime minister's adviser and acquitted his co-accused by giving him the benefit of the doubt.

Convict Manzoor alias Jhora had killed Rana Shabbir Ahmad, the brother of Rana Nazir Ahmad, over old enmity in Lallupur village, Kamoki, about two years ago. His co-accused patwari Saifullah was acquitted.
