KABUL, March 7: Gunmen shot dead a senior relief worker in the southeastern Afghanistan, officials said on Sunday. Mohammmad Isa, head of the Afghan Red Crescent in Zabul was shot dead by two gunmen on Saturday near Qalat , capital of the Zabul province, provincial police chief Mohammad Ayoub said.

"He was killed yesterday, around evening when he was going to Naw Khiez village where he was living," Mr Ayoub said. Mr Isa's vehicle was stopped by two men, and "later he was shot dead near the secondary road between Qalat and Naw Khiez."

Mr Ayoub said six suspects had been arrested in the area which was surrounded by security forces after the incident. He did not say who was behind the attack. -APP
