KARACHI, March 5: The aft section of the broken oil tanker Tasman Spirit would be removed from the KPT channel on Saturday for its removal to Gadani, said a maritime source.

It is learnt that buyers for the rear portion of the ship, which had run aground on July 27 last, were selected from among 15 bidders on Friday. The Customs (Preventive) has already given clearance to the wreck removal, said the source.

The team of international salvagers led by Captain Nicholas Sloane has pulled up the wreck of the submerged rear portion weighing about 10,000 tonnes by about 10 metres and was maintaining it stable for towing.

At least four equipment, including two heavy cranes, would be used in the removal of the wreck to Gadani. The process is scheduled to commence at around 10am, said another source.
