FAISALABAD, Feb 27: The district government has decided to abolish the toll tax on five main roads of the district. A source close to the district Nazim told this scribe here on Friday night that the district government had received a number of complaints from the elected representatives, traders and people from a cross sections of society against the toll tax.

The opposition in the Punjab Assembly had also raised their voice against the toll in the recent session. According to him, the Nazim summoned a meeting of district council on Friday night to discuss the issue. The house decided to abolish the tax after a heated debate, he added.

He said the district Nazim would announce the decision at a press conference scheduled to be held on Saturday (today). The district government had awarded contracts for the collection of toll from five main roads of the district from January 1, 2004, for a period of six months.
