HYDERABAD, Feb 27: The local chapter of the All Pakistan Clerks Association here on Friday took out a procession from the education EDO office to the press club in protest against the Sindh education minister.
Speaking on the occasion, Muhammad Ali Shaikh, Zahir Kaimkhani and Asadullah Durrani demanded that the Sindh chief minister should replace the provincial education minister.
They accused the minister, Irfanullah Marwat, of violating the rules of merit and seniority in deciding promotions in the education department. They said that the grade-I to 16 employees were being deprived of their rights in the government departments and the posts of clerical cadre were being giving to those of non- clerical cadre.
The APCA leaders demanded the award of selection grade and higher education increments to the education department employees and appointment of a education director-general in Sindh on the pattern of other provinces.
DEMO: Under the banner of the Mehran Elementary and Secondary Teachers' Association Sindh, a large number of teachers held a demonstration outside the local press club on Thursday to press for their 19-point charter of demands.
Speaking to the protesters, central president of the association, Mohammad Qasim Pathan, general secretary Ismail Leghari and others demanded that the Sindh government should restore employment quota of teachers' children, cancel contract appointments, grant promotions on the basis of seniority and award gazetted status to teachers of grade-16 and 17.
They also demanded that vacant posts of headmasters, headmistresses as well as administrative posts should be filled on the basis of seniority, medical allowance should be given on the pattern of federal government employees and house rent should be given according to the new pay scale.
SPLA: The Sindh Professors and Lecturers Association has warned the Sindh education minister that if the problems of college teachers were not resolved by March 7, the association will be forced to launch a protest movement.
In a statement on Friday, the information secretary of the association Anwar Sagar Kandhro said a general body meeting of the association will be held on Saturday after which college teachers of 28 colleges will stage a protest demonstration outside the press club against the non-acceptance of their demands.
