MITHI, Feb 24: Tharparkar District Council has demanded that the Sindh government should take notice of wheat crisis and rise in malaria cases in the district. It demanded that the district should be provided with a special wheat quota and an anti-mosquito spray should be carried out there.

Moving a motion at the council's session here on Tuesday, Allah Warayo Bajir contended as the food department had not supplied required wheat to 'chakkis' of the district for the last two months, flour is being sold for Rs15 to Rs20 per kilogramme.

Mohammad Usman Nohri, Mohanlal, Rahmatullah and others said the district administration had repeatedly apprised the food authorities one and half million populace of the district bought flour from 'chakkis', inadequate supply to which had created a severe flour crisis.

Moving another resolution, Dalpatrai said malaria control programme had remained suspended for last few years which had caused an alarming rise in malaria cases in the area.

Even then, he deplored, the health department was not paying due heed to the issue. Health EDO Dr Nawaz Ali Kalar pointed out the district health department lacked funds for the said purpose.

Through yet another resolution, Abdur Rahim Khoso lamented the performance of the school management committees had not remained satisfactory. He said lion's share of the committee funds was being embezzled by vested interests and called for streamlining the SMC system. The district council adopted the resolution.
