HYDERABAD, Feb 23: The Hyderabad Development Authority has urged the authorities of irrigation department not to close the Akram Wah for more than 10 days to ensure smooth supply of drinking water to the people of Paretabad, Hala Naka , Phulelli and other areas of the Hyderabad city.

In a letter to the secretary for irrigation, HDA director-general Ali Ahmad Lund said two water works of the Water and Sanitation Agency - Paretabad and Hala Naka - drew their raw water supplies from the Akram Wah to meet drinking water needs of 600,000 people of the City and Latifabad Talukas.

He said the water storage capacity of ponds of both water works was sufficient for two weeks whereas the closure had been proposed from March 7 to 31. He said that Wasa could not draw raw water from the New Phulelli Canal as an alternate source as its water was polluted by sewage at a number of points.

ELECTRIFICATION: Hesco has electrified Aamrio, Dabro, Liyari, Bakho and Sagarwar villages in the Tharparkar district under the Tamir-i-Pakistan Programme.
