SIALKOT, Feb 22: Anjuman Kashtkaran president Iqbal Ahmad has urged the government to abolish sales tax imposed on diesel engines in the larger interest of the farming sector.

Talking to newsmen here on Sunday, he said the imposition of GST on diesel engines was unjustified and it would discourage the agriculture sector to a great extent.

He said the farming sector had appealed to Finance Minister Shaukat Aziz and the Central Board of Revenue to exempt the farm machinery, pesticides and fertilizers from GST and other taxes.

He said the levy of GST had enhanced the cost of production of diesel engines, affecting the industry badly and disabling the growers and farmers to meet the agri targets fixed by the government.
