HYDERABAD, Feb 22: The Public School Hyderabad principal Mazhar Tufail Shah has said some students of the neglected areas were studying in the school and the federal government was paying their fees.

He was replying to questions of newsmen at a briefing held at the public school here on Saturday. He agreed with a questioner that the government should allocate some money from Zakat fund for poor students and added he would request the government to bear the educational expenses of at least 50 poor but brilliant students.

Mr Shah said previously there was a provision to reduce the fees of such students from 20 to 60 per cent but due to financial constraints, it was not possible now.

The principal said the school was mostly being run on its own resources as the government was giving only Rs300,000 per annum to it, adding it was not practicable to reduce the fees.

He said only the children of well-to-do families could study in the public school due to high fees and other expenses. He claimed comparatively the standard of education in the school was very high.
