LARKANA, Feb 16: The Market investigation police on Monday obtained seven days remand of three employees of the local General Post Office who were arrested after detection of a Rs30 million fraud on Sunday.
The employees - clerk Muharram Ali Mughiri, Naduero postmaster Shah Ali Mughiri and peon Ahmad Ali Kumbhar - were produced before the court of the fourth judicial magistrate.
A team, comprising the deputy director, post offices, Karachi, Liaquat Ali, as its head, inspector Mohammad Tariq and assistant inspector Ashraf Hussain, had unearthed the fraud.
The team had arrived here after receiving information about the misappropriation. Earlier, a team during a surprise visit had noticed that the fee of a licence issued from the Kambar Post Office had not been deposited in the government treasury.
Larkana GPO inspector Agha Ghulam Nabi Shaikh on Saturday had lodged an FIR with the Market police station regarding the theft of arms and driving licence books from the stock room of the GPO.
He said Muharram Ali, Shah Ali and Ahmad Ali were involved in the theft. Sources said after a departmental investigation revealed on Monday that two more books were also missing from the stock room, employees Mohammad Moosa Chawiro and Bisharat Hussain Shah were included in the inquiry.
The vigilance team also on Monday visited post offices in Kambar and Mirokhan. When contacted, the Market police station confirmed the registration of the FIR.
PRISONERS: The authorities of the Larkana Central Prison have said some juvenile prisoners have demanded that they should be shifted to wards of adult prisoners which is against the jail manual.
In a statement issued to the press on Monday, they said some of the prisoners struck their heads with grading rods of their wards and inflicted blade cuts on their bodies.
They said the injured prisoners were provided with first aid. Relatives and supporters of the prisoners also supported theirs demands and began a protest. The jail authorities said a clash occurred when another group of prisoners tried to pacify the protesting prisoners.
The statement said some of the protesters were later shifted to the Sukkur Central Prison. Eight prisoners had injured in the clash between the two groups on Saturday night.
The sources said the prisoners had also demanded cable facility to watch different channels. The deputy inspector general of prisons, Okash Shaikh, arrived in Larkana and held a meeting with the local jail administration. He also visited the jail.
