KARACHI, Feb 16: The Fishermen Cooperative Society (FCS) will provide free textbooks to children of fishermen. Besides, monthly stipends would also be provided to talented and needy students to help their families bear the financial burden.

This was stated by Abuzar Mariwara, Vice-chairman of the FCS while talking to newsmen after opening a free medical camp in Baghdadi area of Lyari Town on Monday. The camp was organized by Gul-i-Noor Educational Society.

Mr Mariwara said health and education sectors were being accorded top priorities by the FCS which had already worked out a plan to extend maximum possible medical and educational facilities to fishermen communities to bring about a change in their lifestyle.

Under the educational programme, he pointed out, the FCS had already provided computers to a number of schools located in coastal areas so that children of fishermen could get benefit of standard education and modern technology.

He also urged the fishermen communities to extend their fully cooperation to the FCS in achieving its objectives.

The FCS cheif suggested that modern methods of fishing be adopted to boost seafood exports, a major source of the country's earnings. Accompanied by FCS Manager (Administration) Iqbal Ahmad Mahar, Mr Mariwara took round the camp and said he was impressed by the arrangement.
