LAHORE, Feb 13: A police vehicle hit and killed a boy in the city on Friday. Labourer Ramzan Ahmad told the police that his three-year-old son Aneesur Rehman was playing in the street when a police van hit him. He died instantly.

Passersby intercepted the vehicle and caught its driver Javed Ahmad who told them that he belonged to Sanda police. He was handed over to the police. The body was returned to the family without autopsy. No case has so far been registered.

In the Factory Area, Fayyaz Ahmad of Rang Mahal, who was married three days ago, visited his in-laws on Ghazi Road. He along with his wife left the house on his motorcycle when a truck hit him.

The man suffered serious injuries and died before getting any medical aid. The truck driver escaped. Passersby and relatives of the deceased put the body in the middle of the road and staged a protest.

The protesters blocked the road for well over two hours and also damaged some vehicles, including two rickshaws. They blamed the traffic police for poor arrangements. Later, senior police officers came to the spot and assured the protesters of action. A case was registered with no arrest.
