KARACHI, Oct 26: Upcountry-bound and jumbo-sized buses and goods trucks on the city’s busy and main thoroughfares have become a major source of traffic congestion, accidents and noise pollution.

During a visit to different parts of the city, including Lines Area, Al-Karam Square, Chand Bibi Road and Kharadar, one could see that a fleet of jumbo-sized, up-country buses and trucks parked in a haphazard manner, creating hindrance in the smooth flow of traffic.

The businessmen having offices and shops there and the people residing in the vicinity of these bus terminuses complained that the buses and trucks had become a major source of nuisance for them as the drivers often kept on blaring pressure horns, causing noise pollution and spoiling the peaceful atmosphere.

Jut Land council Nazim, Mehfooz-un-Nabi, said that the city government should waste no time in implementing the recently approved resolution to shift bus terminuses from Lines Area.

He said that the presence of upcountry-bound buses was creating traffic congestion not only in Lines Area but also on M. A. Jinnah Road and in Saddar, as whenever the drivers of these buses tried to negotiate turns, all the traffic coming from either direction came to a standstill.

He said that since there were a number of schools and hospitals in the locality, students and patients often remained disturbed owing to pressure horns.

About the nuisance being created by the upcountry-bound truck stands which are situated on Chand Bibi Road and Kharadar, Saddar Town Nazim, Farooq Faria, has already urged City Nazim, Naimatullah Khan, to get them shifted to some other place to ensure a smooth flow of traffic and bring an end to the noise pollution.

Meanwhile, the people residing in the huge housing complex, Al-Karam Square, have also appealed to the City Nazim to immediately shift the terminus of upcountry-bound buses from their locality as the conductors of these buses often keep on shouting and blaring pressure horns to attract passengers. They say that the jumbo-sized buses have not only become a source of permanent nuisance for them, but are also responsible for creating traffic jams near Liaquatabad No 10.
