SHIKARPUR, Feb 11: Workers of Pakistan Wapda Hydro-Electric Central Labour Union staged rallies in different towns on Wednesday for acceptance of their demands. A procession was taken out from the Hesco office which after marching through the main roads culminated at Lakhi Gate Tower chowk.

Speaking on the occasion, union leaders Abdul Rehman Pathan, Ghulam Nabi Sanjrani, Dhani Bux Sanjrani and others demanded that the government should withdraw the Wapda Ordinance 2002, the policy of compulsory retirement, recruitment on contract basis, and privatization of Wapda.

NAWABSHAH: Members of Pakistan Wapda Hydro-Electric Central Labour Union staged a rally for acceptance of their demands here on Wednesday.

The rally started from the office of executive engineer Manuabad and ended at the press club. Speaking on the occasion, union leaders Fazal Shaikh and Ali Jan Rind demanded that employees of the Jamshoro Power House should be reinstated. The also called for regularization of contract employees, increase in salaries and cancellation of the Wapda Ordinance 2002.

KHAIRPUR: Employees under the banner of the Pakistan Wapda Hydro Electric Central Labour Union took out a protest procession from the Khairpur powerhouse to the press club here on Wednesday against privatization of Jamshoro and Faisalabad powerhouses.

They also demanded restoration of employees' quota in recruitment. They later staged a sit-in outside the press club.

MIRPURKHAS: A large number of Hyderbad Electricity Supply Company staged a rally at the divisional Pakistan Wapda Hydroelectric Central Labour Union office on Tuesday.

The employees, led by the union's divisional chairman, Akbar Laghari, marched on the city roads and staged a demonstration at the press club.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr Laghari said that CBA union had presented a charter of demands to the Wapda authorities for the solution of the employees' problems. He warned that if the demands were not accepted, the employees would intensify their struggle.

LARKANA: Members of the Pakistan Wapda Hydroelectric Central Labour Union on Wednesday staged a rally to protest against the government's move to privatize the Jamshoro power plant.

The procession, led by the union's zonal chairman, Azam Jarwar, ended outside the district council hall. The union leaders expressed the fear that the privatization of the plant and the Faisalabad Electric Supply Company would dislocate 23,200 workers.

They said it would also lead to a sharp increase in the power tariff, creating what they termed an energy crisis in the country. They urged the government to accept their 24-point charter of demands and restore the employees' quota in service, as done by the Punjab government. They said Wapda was reluctant to pay allowances in line with the revised scales.

BADIN: About 200 employees of Hesco, Badin, Shaheed Fazil Rahu and Talhar sub-divisions, took out a procession against the proposed privatization of the Jamshoro thermal powerhouse and the Faisalabad Electric Supply Company.

Speaking on the occasion, Pakistan Hydro Electric Central Labour Union leaders demanded that their salaries should be increased and contract workers be regularized.

NAUSHAHRO FEROZE: Members of the Pakistan Wapda Hydroelectric Central Labour Union took out processions in Moro and Naushahro Feroze on Wednesday. The procession here started from the Hesco office and terminated at the press club. It was led by the union's divisional president Mohammad Yaqoob Solangi. In Moro, Hesco workers led by Liaquat Ali Arain, Ghulam Akbar Leghari, Abdul Rasool and Malook Khan took out a procession from the Hesco office.
